Overview
What is a Local Area Agreement?
A Local Area Agreement (LAA) is a three year agreement that sets out the priorities for a local area. It is outcome based and enables local authorities and their partners to deliver national outcomes in a way that reflects local priorities. LAAs are a new element in the Government's policy for improving local services. At their heart, LAAs aim to:
- Secure local solutions to local issues focussing on outcomes and priorities
- Join up public services by working across boundaries & working together
- Simplify government funding streams
For more information, please see the Communities and Local Government website.
Devon's LAA is based on three principles:
- Prevention
- Targeting greatest need
- Partnership approach
The LAA - it's difficult - but worth it!
If we get it right, we can expect:
- More efficient service delivery
- More weight to local priorities
- Better targeting
- Better outcomes for Devon's communities
What does Devon's LAA look like?
The Devon LAA is divided into four "blocks" and under each block there are priority outcomes. Click on the links below to view the individual block, outcomes and targets. Alternatively, see the overview of the LAA blocks and outcomes.
- Children and Young People
- Safer and Stronger Communities
- Healthier Communities and Older People
- Economy and Enterprise
Devon's original LAA submission was signed off by Devon partners and government in March 2005. Since then, amendments have been made to reflect the changes in priorities for each of the blocks, government developments and mandatory requirements.
